Direct2Drive £5 game sale: Week 2

The next round of games are up on D2D, and it's another pretty good selection.

Sadly, USA folks get Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, we don't. We do get Serious Sam Gold and Manhunt though....

Special tip for this week: Saints Row 2 serials can be registered on Steam if you want to avoid using D2D. Also - If you recruit a sympathetic yank, you can just get them to buy it for £3, and give you the serial for Steam, saving you £2, and bypassing 'the man'.

I'm not quite sure what you mean? Could you explain in more detail please? Thanks

Basically, UK folk can't use the USA D2D store, where the game is $5 (ie £3). We have to get it from the UK site for £5.

With all the other games on sale, you have to log in to D2D to download the game, however with Saints Row 2, you can register the (region free) serial on Steam.

Cost of buying the game from D2D UK - £5
Cost of getting a friend from the USA to get the game from D2D USA, then giving you the serial number - £3

It's a saving of £2, which might not be worth the hassle, but it's an option.

Thanks Lewie! That makes it more clear now! I still bought it for £5 and registered the serial through steam, because i couldn't understand D2D.

When I bought Riddick ( :P ) there was an option for gifting too, so that's probably an easy way of getting your friend to have the serial sent straight to you (because I think you can only get one copy of a game per account, even if it's just for a serial). I bet they only do the IP region check on purchases too, not downloads, if you want to try to get your friend to get you a copy of a game not available on the .co.uk.

Also, it's not optional that you register Saint's Row 2 with Steam after buying it at D2D (or at retail for that matter), it's a Steam-only game. I imagine D2D would offer you the option of "downloading" the game, but it's going to be like the copy of Defense Grid I got from them and just be a Steam Installer + installer image, which means it's just easier to copy/paste the serial straight into your existing steam install and let that do the downloading.

It's a horrible port, but totally worth the $5 if you have a strong enough computer. Coop is a blast.
